Background
Following on from the successful Austin-Healey 100, the second landmark model from this relatively new marque arrived in 1956, the 100-6. The 100-6 used a tuned version of the new BMC "C-series" six-cylinder engine in 2639cc form. The new car had a longer wheelbase and featured a 2+2 interior, this model became known internally at BMC as the BN4.
In 1958 a traditional 2-seater version (the BN6) arrived and used the six-port head that had been introduced in 1957. 100-6 cars can be distinguished from the early four-cylinder cars by their chrome finished bonnet air intake and smaller grille. Although wire wheels were fitted to cars, the standard equipment for the 100-6 comprised of steel wheels and hubcaps. In 1959 the improved 3000 model arrived and production of the 100-6 in all variants ceased.
Launched in 1959 the new Austin-Healey 3000 (Mk I) introduced a number of improvements to the already successful 100-6. The change of model name heralded the more powerful (124bhp) 2912cc, BMC C-Series engine. The new engine improved the cars performance, allowing a top-speed of nearly 120mph.
Other improvements included front disc brakes, wire wheels as standard, and a choice of either 2-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) body styles. Options included a detachable hardtop roof and overdrive transmission. The 3000 Mk I remained in production until the arrival of the Mk II in 1961.
Vehicle History
This car was built in 1959 and exported to the United States. It returned to the UK when imported by recognized Healey marque specialist Murray Scott-Nelson, based in Scarborough, who sold the car on to the Midland Healey Centre in 1998.
The car was 90% restored with a bare metal respray, refurbished engine and gearbox. With new parts like a new wiring loom, electrical items, lights, navy blue leather seats, interior carpets, mohair hood, side screens, rubber mounts and mechanical parts, the car was then left incomplete.
Healey specialists, Rawle’s Motorsport took the car in hand and commissioned a full body-off restoration and engine rebuild with another specialist. They then marketed the car and it was acquired from them by its late owner in January 2017, part exchanging his Alfa Romeo Spider.
The car has been kept in a dehumidified garage ever since alongside an equally cherished Aston Martin DB4.

Clean out boot area and fit battery, power up and prime fuel pump, replace perished, braided hose. Replace points, condenser & plugs, remove front carb and attend to leak from bottom cover, replace carbs. Drain & remove radiator, leaking water pump and thermostat.
